Juniper Bonsai Tree
Taking Care of Your Juniper Bonsai Tree
Juniper bonsai tree is one of the most favorite types of bonsai trees tended by enthusiasts. It is said that the Juniper bonsai came from the Chinese Juniper species. It had been known that such bonsais can live for almost 200 years! That is why if you could take good care of your plant it will surely last more than your lifetime.
The Juniper tree is a coniferous tree that is mostly found at the northern hemisphere. The leaves have needle-like projections that would become scaly as the tree goes old and shows bluish or light green shading. Depending on how you would classify its species, there are about 50 to 70 different species of Juniper tree. Not all of the species can live that long especially for those who have been turned into bonsai plants. But some believe that if they are well taken care of, can survive many years to come.
The Juniper bonsai tree is not that hard to tend. It is very much easy to cultivate because there are no known diseases or pests that afflict it. It grows well under the full rays of the sun but it should be well-protected from the very hot sun at midday. Of course, it should also be protected from harsh winters and cold weather.
If you would want to tend your plant indoors, you have to make sure that it would still be receiving good lighting. A greenhouse would be a better place for this. This bonsai plant would also grow well under a moist environment so some vapor could help. Just be wary when you are watering the plant by making sure that you keep on watering until the soil becomes damp. But don’t allow the excess water to stay on the pot because if the roots will rot, it could kill the entire plant easily.
Adding fertilizer to the plants can be of big help. Fertilizers that are high on nitrogen can be added every two weeks that could start in spring till midsummer. After midsummer, low nitrogen fertilizer should be used alternately with an acidic fertilizer.

Unlike other ordinary plants, bonsais need to be placed in a new pot every two years or until they get to about 10 years old. It would be advisable to do this on springtime and placing it on a much larger pot. Just make sure that you use a free draining soil that would include clean grit or stones so that alkaline deposits cannot harm your bonsai.
Pruning your bonsai tree would make your plant unique and should be done with extra care by pinching of leaves or the branches. You shouldn’t use any tools like scissors because it could make ends to decay and kill the plant itself. Just make sure you do the pruning between reasonable intervals as to allow your plant to grow.
By properly taking care of your Juniper bonsai tree, you’ll be sure to see it last for a lifetime and enjoy taking a look at your wonderful work of art.
